Lyrics

Planting Roses © Suzette Herft

I’m planting roses in the ground
I’m breaking up the soil
Where stone and weed in hardened mounds
Yield to my sweat and toil

I’m planting roses in the earth
To bring back beauty once more
The softened earth will bring to birth
The beautiful blooms that I grow

My soul is like the broken ground
Tilled and opened from the pain
Everything needs breaking down
For the seed of life to grow again

I’m planting roses just in time
For a fragrant, colourful sight
To make this barren soul of mine
A garden of peace and delight

My soul is like the broken ground
Tilled and opened from the pain
Everything needs breaking down
For the seed of life to grow again

I love the rose’s cradled heart
With her petals soft and furled
I watch her gently open up
Her heart to my world

I’m planting roses in the ground
I touch the moist, warm dirt
I feel the deep and piercing thorn
It reminds me what beauty is worth

My soul is like the broken ground
Tilled and opened from the pain
Everything needs breaking down
For the seed of life to grow again

I’m planting roses in the ground.
